'The police team challenged the robbers at which they tried to flee. Five robbers were apprehended on the spot, whereas one of their accomplices Dharmender managed to escape in the commotion,' Dhaliwal added.

A country made fire-arm, a spring actuated knife, and an iron rod were recovered from their possession.

'The gang has been involved in a total of 12 cases of snatching in R.K. Puram, New Friends Colony and Mandir Marg in the past few months,' the police officer said.

The modus operandi of the gang was simple. They would identify a target, either a passerby or a motorcyclist and would either enter into a conversation or ask for a lift from the victim. They would then rob the person after threatening him, police said.
