Night patrols by flying squads of the police have also been intensified across Srinagar to keep an eye on any suspicious movements.
Buses and private vehicles are being stopped at many places by the security forces to frisk the passengers and check the vehicles before being allowed to enter the city.
Despite security drills and arrangements made to secure Independence Day functions across Kashmir, life went on normally in summer capital Srinagar Friday and all other major cities and towns of the Valley.
'We are now used to these things but life must go on. It is a great inconvenience to be stopped and questioned while moving around, but the authorities are doing their duty which is understandable,' said Javaid Ahmad, 39, who lives in Srinagar's old city.
