Srinagar, Aug 14 - Security forces across Kashmir are on maximum alert to prevent any disruption of the Independence Day functions Saturday by separatist guerrillas.
State Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda told media that besides deploying sharp shooters at high-rise buildings and other high points around the Bakshi Stadium -- the venue of the main parade here -- closed circuit television cameras (CCTVs) have been set up and special checking squads deployed in strength to take care of security.
'Foolproof arrangements are in place to ensure that the militants do not succeed in disrupting the functions on Independence Day,' he said, appealing to the people to cooperate as these arrangements have been made for their security.
'There are standing orders for the police and the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to ensure that they behave very politely with the people while carrying out security duties,' Khoda added.
Inspector General of Police (Kashmir) Farooq Ahmed said restrictions would be imposed wherever necessary as part of the overall security arrangements.
