The Tripura government and state police are also unaware about the purpose of CBI raids.

'We have heard about the CBI raids, but officially not informed about the investigation,' deputy inspector general of police (headquarters) Nepal Das told IANS.

The university, set up in 1986, was run by the state government until 2007 when it became a central university.

A section of the local media has reported the alleged financial irregularities in the university.
