Srinagar, Sep 18 - Three senior police officers were Friday suspended for allegedly tampering with evidence in a murder case in Jammu city.
The home department issued suspension orders of senior superintendent of police (Jammu district) Manohar Singh, superintendent of police (Jammu South) Mumtaz Ahmed and sub-divisional police officer (SDPO, Gandhi Nagar) Jaswant Singh Katock for 'dereliction of duties' in connection with the murder case.
Basant Kumar Rath has been posted as the new district police chief of Jammu.
Amandeep Singh, a civilian and son of a former legislator, was murdered in his Shastri Nagar residence in Jammu Aug 29. The murder evoked widespread condemnation in Jammu city.
Sources said the government has ordered an enquiry into the alleged fudging of the murder weapon in this case by the suspended police officers in order to tamper with evidence and help the accused.
The station house officer (SHO) of the Gandhi Nagar police station has already been suspended in this connection.
