Washington, Sep 9 (DPA) Iconic American rocker Bruce Springsteen and legendary actor Robert De Niro were Wednesday named among the recipients of the Kennedy Center Honours, one of the most coveted prizes in the US art world.
Director Mel Brooks will also be among the recipients, along with jazz great Dave Brubeck and opera singer Grace Bumbry.
The recipients will be feted at a special gala Dec 5, to be attended by President Barack Obama, which is traditionally one of the highlights of the Washington social season.
'This year, the Kennedy Center celebrates five extraordinary individuals whose unique and abundant artistry has contributed significantly to the cultural life of our nation and the world,' Kennedy Center chairman Stephen A. Schwarzman said.
'With his hilarious movies and musicals, Mel Brooks has created comedic gems that will keep us laughing for years to come.
