Kolkata, Sep 9 - A West Bengal court Wednesday remanded Gaffar Mollah, the prime accused in the violence at the Vedic Village resort near here last month, to police custody for seven days, police sources said.

Barasat Chief Judicial Magistrate Sumitra Roy sent Mollah to police custody for his alleged role in the violence that killed one person.

Gaffar and his five associates - Mintu, Lakshman, Natabar, Ismail Gaji and driver Hari - were arrested from Belbadhi village of Bankura district Tuesday.

According to sources, police found Rs.90 lakh in Mollah's bank account. He has reportedly told the police that he spent around Rs.100,000 in the last 15 days while he was on the run.

Gaffar was on the run since Aug 23, when a violent clash over a football match in the northeastern fringes of the city snowballed into a major controversy regarding forcible acquisition of land.
