Kolkata, Sep 7 - A Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) activist was killed by suspected Maoist rebels late Sunday night near the troubled Shalboni area of West Bengal's West Midnapore district, an official said Monday. This was the fifth party activist to be murdered since Saturday night.
Shyam Chalak was abducted by a group of suspected Maoists ultras who barged into his room. His body was found near his residence at Keondi area in the district, West Midnapore district magistrate N.S Nigam told IANS.
He said that some Maoist literature was also recovered from the site where the body was found this (Monday) morning.
'The police have already started an investigation into the case,' he said.
With Chalak's death, five CPI-M supporters have been killed by suspected Maoists in troubled-torn Lalgarh region since Saturday night.
