Chandigarh, Sep 4 - The Student Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU)-Indian National Student Organisation (INSO) alliance made a clean sweep in the Panjab University Campus Students' Council (PUCSC) elections Friday, winning all the posts.
The president's post went to the alliance's Amit Bhatia of University's Institute of Applied Management Sciences (UIAMS), who beat Arshdeep Singh Johal of Panjab University Students' Union (PUSU) by over 600 votes.
Bhatia secured 3,276 votes, while Johal got 2,606 votes.
Virender Bhoora of pharmacy department won the vice president's post with 2,945 votes, and Deepika Thakur, a research scholar in the geology department, was elected general secretary with 2,880 votes.
The post of joint secretary went to Gaurav Aggarwal, of the University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), who got 2,985 votes.
The major groups contesting the varsity elections were the SOPU, PUSU, INSO and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the National Students Union of India (NSUI).
