New Delhi, Sep 2 - Indian teenager Karunuday Singh marched into his first International Tennis Federation (ITF) quarterfinals Wednesday, dispatching South Korean Seong-Yoon Chung 6-4, 6-1 in the $10,000 event at the DLTA Stadium here.
Qualifier Karunuday next plays sixth-seeded Japanese Kento Takeuchi, who was lucky to advance to the last eight stage after Indian N. Prashant retired due to cramps in the second set, trailing 5-6 after winning the first 6-1.
Former national champion Ashutosh Singh, too, advanced to the quarterfinals after Briton Max Jones retired while trailing 4-6, 0-2. In the morning, Ashutosh finished his last evening's match, abandoned due to bad light, against compatriot Yannick Nelord beating him 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Ashutosh next plays fifth-seeded Rohan Gajjar who was given a walkover by compatriot Rohan Gide, who retired due to fever while trailing 1-5 in the first set.
