She was then sold for Rs.30,000 to Parmanand. Manju was supposed to be further sold somewhere in Haryana for the purpose of marriage or otherwise,' the police officer said.
'The accused used to get girls through agents from states like Orissa, Jharkhand, West Bengal on the pretext of giving them employment as domestic helps. Since these girls belong to economically poor backgrounds, they would believe them. Sunil would then negotiate the deal with Parmanand and other associates in Rohtak for the sale of these girls in various parts of Haryana,' the police officer added.
'The accused also used to sexually assault the girls and beat them so that they do not muster the courage to complain to anybody. More raids are being conducted to apprehend other members of the syndicate,' the police officer said.
