New Delhi, Aug 24 - Asserting his authority to speak as the head of country's judiciary, Chief Justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan Monday said the remarks of a Karnataka High Court judge, questioning his authority to speak for the fraternity, cannot cause 'embarrassment.'
'How can the remarks of a single judge cause embarrassment? It (judiciary) is a big institution,' the CJI told reporters on the sidelines of a function in the Supreme Court.
The chief justice made the remark in response to a query whether Justice Shailendra Kumar's remark, questioning the CJI's authority to speak for the judges of the superior judiciary over the issue of disclosure of their assets, was not embarrassing.
Maintaining that he had made some general remarks on the issue of disclosure of assets by judges, Balakrishnan said: 'I think I have got that right.'
The chief justice Sunday disapproved of Justice Kumar's write up in a newspaper questioning the CJI's authority.
