Chief Development Officer Ramdas added that they would get in touch with the office of Chief Minister Mayawati for assistance.

The state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which traces its roots to the Jan Sangh, is also gearing up to help Prema Devi.

'With her (Prema Devi) our party has emotional bonding. Moreover, improving her living conditions is our moral responsibility,' said the party's state president Ramapati Ram Tripathi.

'She is a victim of destiny...At the earliest, I will ask my party workers to raise funds for providing shelter and food for the old mother. We will bear all her for the rest of her life,' he added.

The party's district unit in Gonda has submitted a memorandum to the governor for providing a house to Devi.

Suraj Lal Gupta represented the Utraula Vidhan Sabha seat in Balrampur district, 35 km from Gonda town.
