Gurdaspur (Punjab), Aug 18 - Twenty five kilograms of heroin, worth Rs.1.25 billion, was seized by the Border Security Force (BSF) near the India-Pakistan border in this district of Punjab Tuesday.
'We have seized 25 kilograms of heroin that is worth Rs.125 crore (Rs.1.25 billion) in the international market, in the wee hours Tuesday,' Jagir Singh, Punjab frontier deputy inspector general, told IANS.
'Our jawans observed some suspicious movement near the border. When they went near that place, a miscreant left his bag and ran away on the other side of the border. Our officials chased him but could not catch him due to dense mist and very low visibility,' he said.
Gurdaspur is around 250 km from state capital Chandigarh.
BSF is India's paramilitary force that guards the 553 km fenced border between India and Pakistan in Punjab.
