New Delhi, Aug 17 - Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati Monday questioned the authenticity and effectiveness of information supplied to states by central intelligence agencies, saying that it comes in the way of combating terrorism than helping.
In her address to the joint meeting of chief ministers and state police chiefs here, Mayawati also questioned the effectiveness of the Sashastra Seema Bal deployed along Uttar Pradesh's 600-km border with Nepal.
In her speech, which was deemed as read in absentia, Mayawati said: 'Intelligence has an important role in tackling terrorism. An impending terror attack can be averted in case specific and actionable and specific intelligence is made available to the state in time.'
'But the intelligence and general alert of routine nature sent by the central government just for the sake of it are useless.
