New Delhi, Aug 17 - A record 220 people tested positive for influenza A (H1N1) Monday, taking the total number of infected persons in the country to 1,928 but no more deaths from the virus were reported in the day, health officials said.
Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad also advised schools to do away with morning assemblies. Meanwhile, sources said a new set of guidelines will be issued soon which will make mandatory for class teachers to check each student for symptoms of swine flu.
A total of 220 laboratory confirmed cases were confirmed Monday, of which Mumbai reported a whopping 90 cases followed by Pune where 42 more people were infected. Nashik (5), Ahmadnagar (4), Osmanabad (4), Nagpur (3), Washim (2), Aurangabad (1) and Jalna (1) were the other towns in Maharashtra from where swine flu cases were reported on Monday.
While Chennai reported 20 cases, Bangalore has 11, Belgaum one, Udupi (3), Ahmedabad (16), Delhi (7), Jammu (4), Raipur (3) and Kolkata (3). Except two cases in Mumbai, the rest 218 were indigenous cases.
'There is no new death reported today. The cumulative deaths reported till now is 25 - Pune (13), Mumbai (2), Ahmedabad (1), Chennai (1), Vadodara (1), Nasik (1), Thiruvananthapuram (1) and Bangalore (5),' the health ministry said.
