Agartala, Aug 14 - Fearing terrorist attacks ahead of Independence Day Aug 15, the Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR) has suspended night trains in southern Assam, Nagaland and Tripura till Sunday, an official said here Friday.
'Many trains, especially those running at night in southern Assam, Nagaland and Tripura will remain suspended from Friday to Sunday. The decision was taken on the basis of inputs from the Assam government on the possible militant violence,' a NFR official told reporters.
'In addition to the Railway Protection Force (RPF), state security forces have been deployed to provide full-proof security to trains running in the day time in Assam, Nagaland and Tripura.'
Meanwhile, security measures have been tightened across northeast India to pre-empt any terrorist strike in the run up to Independence Day.
