Over a dozen persons were injured in the clash and a huge battery of force has been deployed in the city to prevent any untoward incident as a fallout of it.

The Azamgarh-based Uttar Pradesh Ulema Council, the most vocal of half a dozen Muslim political parties, emerged about six months ago after two Muslim youth of the district were shot dead by the Delhi police in an encounter Sep 18 last in the Batla House locality in the national capital.

Over a dozen other youth were picked up subsequently by the police, charging them with being involved in anti-national activities. The council had accused the police of indiscriminately rounding up people from Azamgarh.
