Walkover for Akshay and Jishnu
India's Akshay Dewalkar and Jishnu Sanyal were all smiles after their Thai opponent Patipat Chalardchaleam and Nuttaphon Narkthong gave them a walkover in the first round of the men's doubles. The Thai pair complained of fever and decided to opt out.
'We are happy to move to the second round. They were a good team. Though beating them would have been the best way to move ahead in the draw, we will take it this way also. We have prepared well for the tournament and are hoping to clear some rounds,' Jishnu told IANS.
Jishnu is only 21, but he has already decided to focus on the doubles.
'It was a tough decision to make because you always feel that singles is the most important,' said the Thane-based player.
'We have been doing well as a team since we combined last year. We reached the semifinal of the Australian Open and the quarters in the New Zealand Open recently. Now, I want to be a specialist doubles player and am not thinking about singles,' he added.
