India qualify for world junior squash quarters

Chennai, Aug 4 - Second seeded India expectedly qualified for the quarter-finals with a comfortable 3-0 win over France, their second in a row, in the 13th World Junior women's team squash championship here Tuesday.

India, spearheaded by Dipika Pallikal, who had beaten Germany 3-0 last evening in their opening Pool B fixture, had a few anxious moments against France before coming through.

The key match Tuesday for India was the second singles between Anaka Alankamony, who replaced Anwesha Reddy, and Julia Lecoq. The Indian lost the opening two games before bouncing back to take the next three to give her team a 2-0 advantage after Dipika had won the first match.

Later, Surbhi Mishra provided India the winning 3-0 lead when she overcame Cyrielle Peltier in four games.

India take on England wednesday in their concluding league fixture to decide the pool winners. England, who beat France Monday, defeated Germany for their second win and book their berth in the quarter-finals.

The results:

POOL-A: 8-New Zealand beat 16-Sweden 3-0 (Lana Harrison beat Matilda Ravn-Holm 11-4 11-2 11-0, Emma Millar beat {3} Eira Mooney 11-2 11-3 11-9, Amanda Landers Murphy beat Jennie Lindstrom 11-7 11-4 11-9).

1-Egypt beat 9-Australia 3-0 (Heba El Torky beat Sarah Cardwell 11-7 11-6 11-8; Nouran El Torky beat Rheanne Niebling 11-3 11-5 11-7; Nour El Tayeb beat Tamika Saxby 8-11 11-4 11-9 11-9)

POOL-B: 7-England beat 13-Germany 3-0 (Millie Tomlinson beat Lisa Marie Sedlmeier 11-9 11-0 11-9; Julianne Courtice beat Stefanie Rosner 11-6 11-4 11-7, Kimberley Hay beat Caroline Sayegh 11-9 6-11 12-10 11-3)

2-India beat 10-France 3-0 (Dipika Pallikal beat Emilie Lamilango 12-10 11-6 11-7; Anaka Alankamony beat Julia Lecoq 7-11 7-11 11-5 11-7 11-8; Surbhi Misra beat Cyrielle Peltier 8-11 11-4 11-3 11-4).
