According to CBI sources, a large number of investment and assets documents have been found during raids at houses of Kumar, who is a 1993 batch IAS official. The CBI also found foreign liquors at his house.

Thakur was personal secretary since Razi took charge of Jharkhand governor in 2004 and Avinash Kumar became second OSD of the then governor after president's rule was imposed in Jharkhand in January this year. The appointment of Avinash as second OSD created flutter in the media and among the political circle.

The CBI also raided the houses of builder Guddu Singh, considered close to Avinash Kumar, in Ranchi and Bokaro.
