Ranchi, Aug 2 - The Bharatiya Janata Party demanded a special package from the central government Sunday, a day after Jharkhand was declared drought-hit.
'All districts of Jharkhand have been declared as drought-affected areas. The union government should announce a special package for the state. The condition of farmers is pathetic and the new governor is trying to fool all by making false announcements,' state BJP president Raghubar Das told reporters here.
'Jharkhand is under president's rule and there are no serious efforts made by the state machinery to deal with the situation and ensure relief to people. Jharkhand Governor K. Shankarnarayan is trying to fool people by making tall promises instead of ensuring relief to them,' he said.
The Jharkhand government Saturday declared all 24 districts of the state as drought-hit. Shankarnarayan has said that about 12,500 new Public Distribution Shops would be opened.
