Chandigarh, July 31 - The authorities of a private school in Chandigarh Friday sacked a teacher who was found guilty of slapping a Class 3 boy.
Kavita Das, principal of St John's High School, said here Friday: 'As a responsible institution, we are absolutely clear that no one is above the law. We received the inquiry report Wednesday, following which an emergency meeting of the managing committee was called Thursday to deliberate on the issue.'
'We firmly believe in the dignity of each child and corporal punishment can naturally find no place in such an environment,' she added.
The guilty teacher was earlier sent on indefinite leave, but in the wake of mounting pressure from all sides, the school put her under suspension Tuesday.
Punita Singh, mother of a Class 3 student, had filed a complaint with the administration July 22 that the teacher had slapped her son several times and pulled his hair as he could not recite the mathematical table.
