Geelani was arrested by the state government under the stringent PSA after his nearly two month long detention ended.

He is lodged in a state government guest house in the Cheshmashahi area of the city. The guest house has been designated a sub-jail.

After the rape and murder of two young women in Shopian, the police have detained several prominent separatist leaders -- including Shabir Shah, Naeem Khan and Asiya Andrabi, chairman of the Dukhtarani Milat group -- and have lodged them in various jails.
