New Delhi, Sep 24 - A unique 'Green Jobs Fair' was inaugurated Thursday here to create a national movement for a 'green economic revolution' to combat climate change in a better way.

Over 100 organisations working on sustainability, ranging from traditional firms such as a property developer looking for an energy efficiency expert to NGOs working on environmental policy, are participating in the fair.

'We believe green jobs to be the next revolution of India. The investment going into restructuring our economy to be more sustainable will completely dwarf our IT revolution. Large IT firms together employ less than a million people. That is the amount of jobs we can have in bio gas production alone,' said Gaurav Gupta, director of The Climate Project, India.

'The ongoing economic downturn has given policymakers an opportunity to take a second look at their growth strategies, and many have concluded not only that serious structural change to a low carbon economy is necessary, but that the time to make appropriate investments has arrived,' he added.
