The false statement by medical superintendent has been made to mislead and take the attention away from the investigation into charges of cheating levelled by the physically challenged persons belonging to native district Jagdish Prasad Rai,' Dhaliwal said.
Jagat Narayan, who is visually impaired, and S.K. Sinha, who is disabled, had lodged a complaint at the Sarojini Nagar police station that Rai had cheated them of Rs.22 lakh.
They said in their statement that Rai had promised to award them a contract to run the hospital canteen on a 90-year lease under the quota for the disabled.
In the complaint they alleged that Rai's relative Virender had taken the money on his behalf.
Following the complaint, police registered a case against Rai and Virender under sections 420 (cheating), 406 (breach of trust) and 36 (criminal act done by several persons with common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Rai told IANS that Narayan frequently files complaints and police had instructed him to level false allegations against him (Rai).
