Chandigarh, Sep 17 - The director of newly opened Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Punjab's Ropar town - which is facing various problems at its new campus - Thursday sought Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal's assistance, officials said.
The IIT at Ropar town, some 50 km from here, is at present running from the local polytechnic college, as its main campus building is under construction.
Its director M.K. Surappa met Badal at his residence here Thursday and apprised him about the problems faced by the institution.
'Surappa urged Badal to immediately hand over the possession of remaining 100 acres of land out of the 500 acres to the institute to expedite the construction work,' the Punjab government's spokesman said here Thursday.
'They also demanded the continuous power supply and construction of roads around the upcoming IIT campus to enable movement of trucks and heavy machinery involved in the construction activity,' he added.
