Gandhi was returning in the Swarn Shatabdi Express train to Delhi in an air-conditioned Chair Car instead of the plush Executive Class when the train was stoned by miscreants near Gharaunda town close to Panipat in Haryana.

No one was injured, but window panes of three coaches -- other than those in which Gandhi was sitting -- of the train were damaged.
