Raigad (Maharashtra), Sep 14 - A bust of Jijamata, mother of Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji, was stolen from her memorial at Mahad in Maharashtra, a police official said Monday.
According to the Raigad district official, the 10-inch tall bronze bust was erected on a marble platform beneath an arch, at Pachad village, near Mahad, around 250 kms from Mumbai.
When the lone security guard was going on his rounds at the samadhi Sunday evening, he noticed the missing bust and immediately alerted local Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) officials.
ASI official Dinesh Bhosale lodged a police complaint and the matter is being investigated, the official said.
Police have alerted all entry and exit points serving the district and police check posts.
