Bhubaneswar, Sep 10 - Twenty days after it was closed following violence, the Utkal University reopened Thursday after the varsity authorities decided to revoke the sine die closure.
The decision to resume classes was taken Wednesday.
The varsity was closed Aug 21 following violence between the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and the Congress supporters on the campus.
On Aug 24, three buses of a private engineering college were torched by some unidentified people. The hooliganism was attributed to 'agitating students'.
Several ATMs were also damaged during the protests.
On Sep 5, the police claimed to have evicted 500 'outsiders' from the varsity campus.
The college students union election is slated for Sep 23.
