New Delhi, Sep 4 - The Congress Friday constituted screening committees for shortlisting the candidates for assembly elections in three states scheduled to be held in October.
'The Congress president has constituted the screening committees for the ensuing assembly elections,' a statement issued by Congress media department here said. The committees will have four members each and the chairperson.
Birendra Singh has been appointed chairman of the Maharashtra screening committee, while party general secretary Mohsina Kidwai has been given the charge of Haryana. Oscar Fernandes will head the screening committee for Arunachal Pradesh.
Elections in these states will be held on Oct 13, results would be declared on Oct 22.
Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Mukul Wasnik has been put in charge of Jharkhand, which at present is under president's rule and elections are yet to be announced there.
