Mumbai, Sep 3 - Maharashtra Governor S.C. Jamir Thursday expressed 'shock and deep anguish' over the death of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy in a helicopter crash.
In a condolence message, Jamir said Reddy's death was shocking not just for the people of Andhra Pradesh but also for the entire nation.
'YSR, as he was popularly known, was one of the most dynamic chief ministers in the country. A gem of a person, YSR was widely acclaimed for providing a pro-poor and progressive administration,' Jamir said.
The governor pointed out that YSR had earned unprecedented goodwill and popularity among the masses and party workers of the state on the strength of his lasting good work.
'It is unfortunate that death has snatched from our midst an outstanding national leader in a cruel manner,' he added.
On behalf of the people of Maharashtra, Jamir conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the people of Andhra Pradesh, YSR's family members and also the families of the four other victims of the tragic helicopter crash.
