New Delhi, Aug 31 - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday said expelled party veteran Jaswant Singh should on moral grounds step down as chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of parliament.

Party spokesperson Ravi Shanker Prasad told reporters here that Jaswant Singh, elected to the Lok Sabha from Darjeeling, should quit the parliamentary panel post on the grounds of 'morality', while the party would take a call on what course it would take on it.

'According to parliamentary tradition, the post of the PAC chairman goes to a Lok Sabha member of the principal opposition party. And he (Singh) was assigned the crucial position for being in the party. Now that he has been expelled, the party will take a call soon,' BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said Monday.

Singh, 71, was expelled from the party following the release of his book 'Jinnah -- India, Partition, Independence' praising the founder of Pakistan Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

His sacking triggered a political turmoil in the party.
