New Delhi, Aug 28 - A 15-year-old boy was arrested Friday for raping a five-year-old girl in a school in the national capital, police said.
The boy, a Class 4 student of Orphan House School in Darya Ganj in central Delhi, raped the Class 1 student of the school more than a fortnight ago, police said.
The police received a complaint from the girl's mother on Aug 20, after she was admitted to a hospital.
'The girl in her statement said that the boy took her in a room of the school and sexually assaulted her. After medical reports confirmed rape, we registered a case,' said Deputy Commissioner Police (central) Jaspal Singh.
It was initially difficult for the police to find the culprit as they had to be careful keeping in mind the age of the accused.
Singh said: 'The police team went about its task in a very systematic way. The children were divided into different age groups. Maximum attention was given to those who had recently joined the school.'
'During investigation we zeroed in on one boy who by his conduct aroused suspicion and his responses were not proper. With the help of Juvenile Welfare Officers, the boy admitted to his guilt,' he said.
