Lucknow, Aug 28 - Prisoners of Bareilly central jail will now have a chance to upgrade their education further as the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will open its study centre there soon.
According to jail officials, the university is already in the process of setting up the centre.
'Inmates of the jail are having the facilities to study and appear in Class 10 and 12 board examinations and other distant learning graduation programmes. However, establishing an IGNOU centre will help them gain post-graduate and professional degrees,' senior jail superintendent B.R. Verma told IANS.
The zonal centre of IGNOU is also making all efforts to make the new centre functional at the earliest.
'We cannot tell a date but it will start soon. We will be providing the same quality of study material and education to the inmates like any other centre across the country,' coordinator of IGNOU (Bareilly zone) Kavindra Singh told IANS.
