New Delhi, Aug 28 - Volvo Buses India Friday said it is planning to roll out 'sleeper coaches' by the end of this year.
'One of the markets we are studying is sleeper coach... and we will come out with it by the year-end,' Volvo Buses India Managing Director Akash Passey told reporters on the sidelines of the SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) annual convention here.
'We have been giving seater buses till now and people travel around 10-12 hours a day and they don't generally get sleeper coaches... (so) we are looking into the body building aspect of it,' he added.
Asked if it was due to any market competition, he said: 'It is an ongoing experience of bringing in new layers. We are just trying to delve into more and more auxiliaries on our production line.'
Passey further said Volvo India sold 400 units last year and is expecting to sell around 700 units this year followed by close to 1,000 in 2010.
A 'most-modern' product Volvo city bus costs around Rs.60 lakh.
