Ranchi, Aug 26 - A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court Wednesday sentenced 19 people for fraudulent withdrawal of Rs.13.69 crore from Gumla treasury in undivided Bihar and now in Jharkhand.

Special CBI judge A.H. Ansari sentenced the 19 convicts to varying terms of four to seven years' imprisonment. The convicted include the then regional director of the animal husbandry department, Junual Bhengraj, who has given a seven-year prison term and fined Rs.25 lakh.

The CBI court Tuesday convicted 42 people in the same case and sentenced 11 of them to three years' jail term each.

There are 53 people accused in the case. During the trial, five died, two are absconding, one turned approver for the CBI and two were acquitted by the court.

When Jharkhand was carved out from Bihar in 2000, 53 of the 61 cases were transferred to the new state.

Former railway minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Yadav and former Bihar chief minister Jagannth Mishra were made accused in five fodder scam cases by the CBI.
