Gandhinagar, Aug 26 - The Gujarat government has decided to purchase 50 ventilator machines to be installed at government hospitals in small towns for the critically ill swine flu patients, a health department official said Wednesday.
The state government has also decided to construct Intensive Care Units (ICUs) in government hospitals in small towns which do not have adequate critical care facilities.
As of now, most large government hospitals in Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara and Ahmedabad have ICU facilities. In case of emergencies patients are referred to these hospitals, the official said.
The official said that 105 positive cases of swine flu are being treated in Gujarat, of which the maximum 67 are reported from Ahmedabad followed by Surat (16), Vadodara (9), Gandhinagar (1), Bhavnagar (1), Jamnagar (1), Daman (1) and Kandla (1). Seven people have succumbed the deadly H1N1 virus in the state.
