Chandigarh, Aug 21 - Haryana Governor Jagannath Pahadia Friday evening dissolved the assembly, just hours after the state cabinet recommended its dissolution.
An official spokesman confirmed to IANS that the governor issued a notification Friday evening dissolving the state assembly.
The Congress-led government in the state, headed by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, had earlier Friday recommended dissolution of the 90-member assembly nearly seven months ahead of the expiry of the legislature's term in March next year.
The main opposition party, Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), said that it was ready for the early polls.
Elections in the state are likely to be held in October along with polls to the Maharashtra assembly.
Looking confident, Hooda told reporters after the meeting: 'The cabinet has unanimously recommended immediate dissolution of the assembly to the Haryana governor. We have done it because it was the wish of the people and also of the opposition (in Haryana).'
Taking a dig at the leader of the opposition, Hooda added: 'It was also due to the love of Om Prakash Chautala', president of the state's main opposition INLD.
Welcoming the dissolution recommendation, Chautala said: 'The elections would relieve the public of open loot of public money by the Hooda government.
