Chennai, Aug 20 - New Zealand A were knocked out of the All-India Buchi Babu tournament here Thursday after being dismissed for 157 by the Tamil Nadu Combined Districts XI in the second round of league matches.
The Tamil Nadu team had made 359 for eight in their quota of 90 overs.
The Kiwi batsmen appeared clueless in handling spin with five of them giving return catches. Suresh Kumar was the pick of the bowlers with a four-wicket haul. Only Aaron Redmond offered some resistance while compiling 47.
The other big surprise was the virtual elimination of a strong Tamil Nadu team led by Subramaniam Badrinath that included the likes of Dinesh Karthik, Murali Vijay and Lakshmipathi Balaji.
The hosts went down by five wickets to Madhya Pradesh who, thanks to an unbeaten 91 by Jalaj Saxena, made 177 for five in reply to Tamil Nadu's 176 all out.
The third round of the preliminary league is scheduled for Aug 22 and 23 after a day's break Friday.
Meanwhile, Assam snatched a dramatic win against Himachal Pradesh who lost their last four wickets for just one run and in 2.3 overs when needing just 10 more runs for victory.
