New Delhi, Aug 19 - Sanjaya Baru, former media advisor to the prime minister, will return to the world of journalism when he joins the financial daily Business Standard as editor from Oct 1.

Editor-in-chief T.N. Ninan will continue as the chairman of the board of the newspaper.

Baru was the editor-in-chief of another financial daily, the Financial Express, from 2000 to 2004.

He served as media advisor to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh from 2004 to 2008, when he joined the Singapore-based Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy as a member of its faculty.

There was talk that he would rejoin the Prime Minister's Office as a policy implementation monitor, but the move has apparently run into opposition from sections of the Congress party that was opposed to his return to the government that he left in August 2008.
