Hyderabad, Aug 13 - Canadian players have decided to ignore an advisory from their foreign office to leave India before Independence Day and decided to continue playing in the ongoing World Badminton Championships.
Badminton Canada issued the advisory on behalf of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAIT) recommending 'that the Canada's delegation at the World Championships should depart India prior to the Independence Day, August 15.'
But Canada's chief coach Ram Nayar told IANS Thursday that the advisory is a routine one and is issued periodically.
'The advisory has been there for six months and we are aware of it. We have been told by our federation to be vigilant. That's it,' said the India-born Nayar.
'We have no concerns and we are staying put. Some of the players, who have lost their matches have gone for a vacation in Rajasthan while others have left for home. Four players are still in fray in the tournament,' he said.
Nayar said that he was in constant touch with his federation officials and there is no need to panic.
'I am born in India and I don't think there is any reason of concern,' he said.
