Mumbai, July 8 - A Mumbai court Wednesday rejected the bail application filed by actor Shiney Ahuja. The Bollywood star will continue to be in judicial custody till July 16 on charges of raping his domestic help.
Shiney's bail plea had come up twice before the Mumbai Sessions Court, which had deferred its hearing till Wednesday.
The actor was arrested June 14 after his teenaged maid accused him of having raped her. He is currently lodged in the Arthur Road jail.
Various medical tests on the actor and the domestic help had confirmed that he had sex with the complainant.
If the charges against him are proved in court, Shiney faces a minimum seven-year jail sentence.
A team of the National Commission of Women (NCW) had rushed to Mumbai last month and met all the concerned parties, including the victim and her family members.
Following the NCW visit, Chief Minister Ashok Chavan had announced that the rape case would be transferred to a fast track court soon.
