Shimla, Aug 10 - Three cases of ragging were reported in Himachal Pradesh this year and the state government has brought in an anti-ragging ordinance, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said Monday.

'Three ragging cases have been reported in educational institutes in the state this year,' Dhumal said in a written reply to Congress legislator Kaul Singh Thakur in the state assembly.

He said last year two ragging cases were reported, whereas no case was reported in 2006 and 2007.

'Of the five registered cases, charge sheets have been filed in four ragging cases,' the chief minister said.

He said an anti-ragging ordinance, Himachal Pradesh Educational Institutions (Prohibition of Ragging) Ordinance, 2009, has been brought by the government and it would be made an Act in this session of the assembly.

The new anti-ragging ordinance comes weeks after Aman Kachru, a first-year student of the Rajendra Prasad Medical College in Tanda town, died March 8 after he was beaten up in the name of ragging, allegedly by four final-year students.
