Chandigarh, Aug 10 - A 21-year-old Afghan who was studying in a college here was killed when a speeding car hit him while he was crossing the road, police said Monday.
Ahmed Jawid had come to India just a month back and was pursuing a Bachelors degree at at the Government College in Sector 11. He was staying in a hostel and was returning after watching a movie with his friends Sunday when the accident took place, a police official said.
'They were crossing the road near the railway station to board a bus. A rashly-driven car crossed the red-light, hit the victim and threw him a good distance away,' the official said.
'The driver did not stop the car and fled the scene. However, a police control room van intercepted the car and arrested the driver. The youth was immediately taken to PGIMER (Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research) but he succumbed to his injuries later,' he added.
