Mecheda (West Bengal), Aug 9 - Trinamool Cognress leader and Railways Minister Mamata Banerjee Sunday carried forward her twin strategy of initiating development work alongside launching sharp political assaults on her rival West Bengal's ruling Left Front.
Banerjee commenced work for the third railway line between Panskura and Kharagpur at Mecheda in East Midnapore district and later addressed a public meeting at nearby Gopalganj where she wondered whether the Left Front was planning to advance the assembly elections, slated to be held in 2011.
'Why are they committing so much atrocities? Do they want to go for early elections? The signs are not good,' Banerjee said at the public meeting.
Alleging that the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) cadres had fired at her party supporters at Mangalkote of Burdwan district Saturday, Banerjee said, 'The police even dared to hold our people by their ears.
