Guwahati, Aug 7 - Nine post-graduate students of the Dibrugarh University in Assam, including two girls, have been suspended for ragging juniors, officials said Friday.
A university spokesperson said five students were suspended Friday, while four, including two girl students, faced similar action Thursday.
The action was initiated following written complaints to the vice chancellor against these nine students by junior students, who alleged that they had been 'mentally tortured' by being asked obscene questions.
'The vice-chancellor has already ordered an enquiry into the alleged ragging incident and until such time the probe is completed, the nine students against whom there are ragging charges have been placed under suspension and asked not to attend classes,' Dibrugarh University registrar P.K. Bhuyan told IANS by telephone.
