Raipur, July 31 - Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh Friday drove to the state's police headquarters here, held a closed-door meeting with top officials and urged them to check infighting within the force.

Singh stunned top police officials when he reached the headquarters along with state Home Minister Nankiram Kanwar and chief secretary P. Joy Oommen. He then chaired a meeting of officials of the ranks of additional director general (ADG) and inspector general (IG). Director General of Police Vishwaranjan also attended the meet.

'Singh asked top police officials to end groupism and infighting and focus on bigger issues such as law and order and containing rising Maoist violence,' a source at the police headquarters told IANS.

The source added that DGP Vishwaranjan was unhappy with the ongoing tussle among the top rung police officials and was not getting the desired support from his ADGs and IGs to execute the strategy to tackle the Maoist menace. Maoist violence has claimed 180 lives this year alone, including about 100 policemen and paramilitary troopers.
