Mumbai, July 31 - Sarabjot alias Sweety Singh, son of former union home minister Buta Singh, was placed under arrest by the anti-corruption wing of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) early Friday, after he was caught allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs.1 crore from a Nashik-based contractor.
'We arrested the accused around 2 a.m. in the presence of his lawyers. I cannot give more details at this juncture,' CBI Joint Director (Western Region) R.R. Singh told IANS.
Sweety Singh was nabbed in New Delhi Thursday by CBI sleuths when he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs.1 crore. He was brought to Mumbai later in the evening.
The CBI is also trying to ascertain Sweety Singh's involvement in some other financial transactions, including hawala deals.
According to CBI sources, the corruption case against Sweety Singh involves a complaint filed by Nashik-based civic works contractor Ramraj Patil.
