Gandhinagar, July 29 - Mock assembly sessions by the Congress legislators to protest illicit liquor deaths in Gujarat have angered Speaker Ashok Bhatt who said the opposition move was an 'insult to the house' and 'against democratic traditions'.
Opposition members have alleged that they were not being allowed by the speaker to raise the issue in the house. And in order to register their protest against the tragedy that claimed 136 lives early this month, they held mock assembly sessions in various cities of the state from July 10 to 27.
Bhatt in a statement said a committee would be formed to probe the mock assembly episodes as it was an 'insult to the house'.
'The legislators are elected by the citizens as their representatives in the house. Such kind of mock assembly organised in the state is against democratic traditions,' he said.
He said he had ordered suspension of opposition legislators after they created pandemonium and broke microphones in the house July 9 and 10.
